ROYALTY

Meet Our 2009 Rodeo Queen and Princess

2009 Queen - Meghan Allen

Hello, my name is Meghan Allen, and I am the 2009 High Country Stampede Rodeo Queen. I competed as a royalty candidate throughout the 2008 rodeo season and had the honor of being officially crowned Queen on August 30th, 2008

Throughout the year I participate in Equine Sporting events throughout the state of Colorado. My main passion is Barrel Racing, but I also compete in Pole Bending, Breakaway Roping, and Goat Tying. I started riding at the age of nine and competed in Hunter Jumper Competitions in Colorado and Arizona, and then I discovered and fell in love with rodeo and never looked back. Another Equine event I love is 4-H. I have been participating in 4-H for eight years. Horses are my favorite project. I have also completed projects in dog obedience, Market Goat, Market Steer, Decorate Your Duds, and Crocheting.
I am a 15 year old Honor student at Middle Park High School. After graduation I plan to attend Colorado School of Mines and major in Engineering Technology. In addition to my equine rodeo events I am an active member on the Basketball, Track, and Knowledge Bowl Teams. In my free time I enjoy reading, pleasure riding, taking pictures, drawing, and skiing. Through these experiences I have learned to be a strong, humble person and to have respect for my peers and competitors.

As Rodeo Queen I get the pleasure and privilege of attending many local, state, and national events. The High Country Stampede Rodeo Princess, Randi Strandberg, and I have made appearances at many spectacular events and have become friends with dozens of people. We attended The National Western Stock Show, the Fourth of July Parade, Buffalo Days Parade and Barbeque, Kremmling Days Parade, Mary Jane Parade, Veterans Parade, Colorado Association of Fairs and Shows, Greeley Stampede, Christmas Festival of Trees sponsored by the Fraser River Valley Lions Club, and the National Sports Center for Disabled Therapeutic Riding Center. I also had the pleasure of assisting at the Mr. Joe Wolter, a renowned horsemanship and versatility trainer, at the Devil’s Thumb Ranch. We are also planning to attend countless other events were we will be acting a s ambassadors for our community, youth, businesses and all of Grand County.

I would like to send a huge and warm thank you to the Winter Park Horseman’s Association, my parents, Pat Baker and Kathleen Allen of Granby, Colorado, my Queen coordinators, Janet Engel, Amy Grey, and Wendy Christiansen, and most importantly the participants and spectators. I also couldn’t do any of this without the help of my sponsors: Big Valley Construction, Northwest Ranch Supply, and Middle Park Electric, who are always willing to support the youth in our community. I look forward to proudly representing the High Country Stampede Rodeo, my community, during my reign as Queen.

2009 Princess - Randi Strandberg

Hello, my name is Randi Strandberg and I am the 2009 High Country Stampede Rodeo Princess! I would like to tell you a little about myself, as well as my plans for the future, and some events and experiences I have had, and wish to complete during my reign.

I am 14 years old, and am a Freshman at Middle Park High School. I have been running track since 7th grade. I participated in Brain Bowl in 6th and 7th grade, where my team placed in the top five at the Boulder Invitational Brain Bowl Meet in 2007. One of the biggest programs I have been a part of my whole life, is rodeo. I compete at the local rodeos every Saturday, all summer long. I have won various awards and belt buckles with my horse, Bacon, in the three years that he has been my horse. I have also been part of the 4-H Program since I was 8 years old. I have participated in every project from cake decorating, to raising and showing market animals in the Middle Park Fair and Rodeo. After I graduate High School, I plan to go to Stanford University School of Medicine.

In the short time that I have been Rodeo Princess, I have already had the chance to go to several parades and rodeos in Grand County. I rode in the Buffalo Barbeque Parade in Grand Lake, and the Parade at the Annual Veterans Rally and Festival in Winter Park. I also appeared at the Middle Park Fair and Rodeo this year. In November, I went to the Colorado Association of Fairs and Shows Royalty Convention, too. During my future reign as Rodeo Princess, my Queen, Meghan Allen, and I plan to appear at the National Western Stock Show, the Kremmling Days Parade, the Granby 4th of July Parade, the Cheyenne Frontier Days Parade and Rodeo, the Laramie Jubilee Days Parade and Rodeo, and the Flying Heels Rodeo.

I would like to thank all my sponsors so much, which include, The Paper Clip, Country Home Outfitters, R & J Liquors, Big Valley Construction, The Roofing Company, Mountain Parks Electric, Clint and Jeanette Iacovetto, and Napa Autoparts. I would also like to thank my parents, Bill and Sophie Strandberg for all of their support. Also, a big thank you goes to my previous Queen, Amy Grey. She has taught me so much and without her, I wouldn’t be the princess that I am today. Last but not least, I would like to give a huge thank you to the Winter Park Horseman’s Association, and my coordinators Wendy Christiansen, Kelly Stefanik, and Janet Engel. I thank each and every one of you gratefully for all of your help and support throughout my reign, and I hope to see you all at the High Country Stampede Rodeo.
