HIGH COUNTRY STAMPEDE RODEO SERIES 2008
JOHN WORK ARENA
RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • In addition to these rules and regulations, the rodeo rules of the CPRA., PRCA, WPRA, apply except where there is a conflict, in which case these rules and regulations will supersede.
  • The junior events will be governed by the rules of The Little Britches Association except where there is a conflict and these rules will supersede.
  • The age classes for the Junior Rodeo are as follows: 8 & under, 9-13, 14-18*. July 1 will be the date to determine the age classes.
  • Vests are mandatory for Jr Bull Riders and Jr Steer Riders, helmets are strongly recommended.
  • Accepted dress for the High Country Stampede Rodeo is in accordance with CPRA, PRCA, LBRA and WPRA rules. The exception being, women are allowed to compete in denim jeans. Cowboy Boots Only. All junior contestants are encouraged to wear helmets.
  • No one shall use the John Work Arena facilities or compete in the High Country Stampede Rodeo at any time without a signed waiver, failure to do so will result in disqualification and loss of arena use and subsequent legal action.
  • Entry fees must be paid in person to facilitate waiver signing. All junior contestants must have a notarized waiver to compete. All entry fees must be paid and waivers signed before the start of your event. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS ALLOWED.
  • Pay back will be determined by money in the purse. No more than five (5) places will be paid. If no contestants are entered in an event the added money WILL NOT carry over to the next week.
  • If all places are not qualified for, the qualified contestant(s) will receive the payoff for all places. Entry fees will not be paid back if there are no qualified contestants(s). Entry fees minus stock/ or timing fees will be added to the next rodeo. If there are no qualified contestant(s) at the end of the 2008 series, monies will be retained by WPHA.
  • Disqualification of a contestant by judges, arena director or any WPHA Board of Director may result from intentional abuse of stock while competing or on the rodeo grounds. This applies to the contestant’s horse also.
  • All events will be limited to 10 contestants during the performance. The exception being Team Roping which will have 6 Open teams and 6 Local teams. The rest will compete in slack, which will be run at 2:00pm Saturday afternoon.
  • For all events, the 20-second rule is in effect and will be enforced. *The rule will be waived for the junior events.
  • During the junior rodeo the hat rule will be waived for committee membersoutside the arena. This does not apply to contestants.
  • With the exception of the roping events, no contestant will be allowed inside the arena except when actually competing or at the special request of the Arena Director. In the roping events, the contestant "on deck" will be allowed in the arena while the "called" contestant is competing.
  • Team Ropers are allowed only two loops (one per roper). Calf Ropers and Breakaway Ropers are allowed one loop. Team roping steers will be chute drawn and tie down calves and breakaway will be drawn for. All ropers are to exit at the far end of the arena, unless you are "on deck".
  • Open Breakaway Roping is for women only.
  • Barrel racers and Pole Benders in the open and junior rodeo may circle their horse no more than one time after entering the arena and prior to their run. You must maintain forward motion. There is a 5 second penalty for any loss of hat in the arena during the Barrel Race and Pole Bending, for both junior and open rodeo.
  • Barrel racers and Pole Benders must enter from the arena gate, no one will be allowed to run from the roping boxes.
  • There is a locals' class for Barrels and Team Roping. To enter the locals' class you must show a current drivers license with a Grand County address or other identification such as a current school ID. No one may enter locals' without proper ID.
  • Contestants can move up in classes but, may not move down. If you enter an event in the Open class at the first rodeo, you will compete in that class for the rest of the series. This rule applies to junior contestants as well. If a junior contestant enters an event in the open rodeo they will not be allowed to enter that event in the junior rodeo for the rest of the series. The winner of the previous year's locals' class will automatically move up to the open class for the following year.
  • Juniors who do not make the junior performance will NOT be allowed to run in the main performance.
  • Series Belt Buckles will be given for the High Point Contestant in each event. The Team Roping series awards are individual awards. They are to be awarded to a header and a heeler.
  • Team ropers may enter no more than two (2) times as long as they switch ends or partners. At the time of the entry you must have a designated partner. If you switch ends this creates a new team.
  • HCSR judges may compete in events that they don't judge that performance.
  • The year end awards for each event are based on total points for the series. The All Around will be given to the high point cowgirl and cowboy for the series.
  • A contestant must compete and place in 2 or more events to qualify for All - Around Awards. In the event of a tie, awards will be decided on total money won. A contestant must compete at a minimum of 6 rodeos to be eligible for series awards.
  • Each contestant will park in the area and manner indicated by the parking attendants. Violation will result in that contestant being disqualified for that performance. Parking space for contestants is limited so, please park as close to each other as possible.
  • All dogs must be contained in truck cab, camper, motor home or horse trailer, except those assisting the disabled (as allowed by the American’s with disabilities Act) while on the rodeo grounds. NO DOGS – NO EXCEPTIONS
  • Personal alcoholic beverages of any kind are not allowed near the arena . If you have it in your truck or trailer, leave it there. This is the law and will be strictly enforced.
  • Underage drinking will not be tolerated . Anyone caught drinking under the age of 21 will be forced to leave the venue.
